- Port St. Lucie, Fla., August 5, 2008– Abingdon at Tradition, a master-planned, full-service retirement community in Port St. Lucie celebrated its groundbreaking on July 31st with approximately 175 guests.
Current and prospective members took a break from the searing heat and dined on a hot breakfast prepared by Bagel Brothers inside an air-conditioned tent as the sounds of The Top Hats filled the air.
“I have wanted to see a community like Abingdon at Tradition for a long time,” said Mayor Patricia Christenson. “It is something Port St. Lucie desperately wants and needs.”
Wes McCurry, president of Core Communities added, “With today’s ever growing senior populations, communities offering these types of amenities are increasingly important.”
The community, which is expected to open Fall 2009, is the only major residential construction currently taking place. Abingdon at Tradition will employ approximately 120 people when it opens, and approximately 180 at completion.
“I have been looking around for awhile and I found everything I was looking for at Abingdon from the great amenities to the wonderful location of Tradition,” said future Abingdon resident Dulce Alvarez. “Also, I am going from a house to an apartment, so it is definitely an adjustment, but the apartments at Abingdon are very spacious, much more so than at other places.”
Developed by Senior Living Communities, an owner and operator of premier retirement communities throughout the southeast, Abingdon at Tradition when complete will offer 70 single-family homes, 160 condominium-style villas, 26 enhanced living villas and 56 assisted-living units, skilled-nursing beds and memory care units.
The gated, luxury retirement community will provide many upscale amenities typically not seen in traditional retirement communities. Through a partnership between Abingdon at Tradition and the Professional Golfers Association (PGA), all residents will enjoy the privileges of their own associate membership at the PGA’s Country Club as well as special access to the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. Residents can also enjoy scheduled transportation, indoor and outdoor pools, healthcare clubhouse, putting green and a grand clubhouse – the centerpiece and highlight of the community.
In addition, a wellness program will provide the environment, education, resources, motivation and encouragement that help residents rise to high levels of personal wellness, ensuring an overall quality of life. Most importantly, a highly trained, round-the-clock staff as well as a 24-hour emergency notification system in each of Abingdon at Tradition’s homes ensures unparalleled peace of mind.
